It was great to see everyone in person once again at our launch event, Enterprise Support: North Bristol, in Southmead on 23rd September! The event was organised by North and East Bristol Enterprise Support (NEBES), in partnership with Southmead Development Trust, providing free in-person business support to people looking to start or grow their own business.
We heard inspirational talks from business owners and entrepreneurs from various walks of life and industries. North Bristol entrepreneurs Jessica Butcher and Laura McCrum spoke about their own experiences, as well as the different challenges they have both faced in starting and running multiple businesses. When asked for their biggest piece of advice for new business owners, both entrepreneurs stressed the importance of access to business support and building up a local business network.
After an introduction to the free business support on offer from NEBES, Bristol North MP and Chair of the House of Commons Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee, Darren Jones, addressed the room with a pre-recorded video message to show his support for local businesses and inspiring those with an idea for a business to get started. Darrren said, “I want to thank YTKO, West of England Combined Authority, Bristol City Council and Southmead Development Trust, in putting together this very important support programme in the North of Bristol. I’m really looking forward to hearing about the number of entrepreneurs, businesses and other organisations that this new service will be able to support.” Watch Darren’s full message here.
Southmead Councillor, Brenda Massey, joined the event and was delighted to meet local residents and business owners, “Having spoken to a number of the attendees after the event, I was very impressed by the comments made by the participants”. Brenda continued, “a number of them said that the session had now given them the confidence to move forward, and get their businesses running on a commercial basis, which was something they hadn’t previously considered. They found the session extremely helpful, and were glad that they had attended.”
If you could not attend the Southmead event, don’t worry! We will be hosting a number of follow-up events in various community centres around North Bristol which you can attend, network and find out about the free support available to you.
