Bristol businesses and entrepreneurs are now being offered help via the free North and East Bristol Support (NEBS) programme, delivered by YTKO.

The NEBS programme offers businesses help to recover from the impact of COVID-19, as well as one-to-one support. Support packages include online workshops and training on a wide variety of topics, such as building resilience, trading online, financial management, securing funding, marketing and social media.

Launched last year, NEBS is part of Universal Business Support, a West of England Combined Authority initiative, and is delivered in partnership with Bristol City Council. The project runs until the end of March 2023, and aims to work with over 2,800 businesses and residents outside of South Bristol, with a focus on reaching underrepresented communities and deprived areas.

Councillor Craig Cheney, Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Finance, Governance and Performance said: “It’s fantastic to see this type of support being made available to businesses, especially during what has been a very difficult time due to the pandemic.

“NEBS delivers training and events via an award-winning support package and I urge Bristol businesses and entrepreneurs to seek out this free support programme to help with their recovery from the impact of COVID-19. Bristol is a vibrant city full of innovative and resilient businesses who I know could really benefit from this additional support right now, and could also lead to new opportunities for both our businesses and our city.”

All of the workshops and training events are delivered via two award-winning programmes: Outset (for pre-start and start-ups at the beginning of their journey) and GetSet For Growth (for established businesses who want to grow). Users can also benefit from exploring the online community to share ideas and ask questions to fellow Bristol-based entrepreneurs.

Aliu A. Bello, Managing Director of the Centre for Capacity Building & Enterprise Development (CCBED), has partnered with NEBS to provide business support to his community in St. Pauls. Aliu said: “We are delighted to have North & East Bristol Support as our valued partner, supporting our learners to gain practical support and the confidence to start their enterprise and self-employment journeys, contributing towards creating successful businesses in Bristol.”

Sarah Ives, Project Manager for NEBS, said: “I’ve worked with some extremely inspiring business owners from all walks of life, and it’s wonderful to see how much the free business support is benefiting them. I would encourage anyone with a business concept, all the way to existing businesses with up to 250 employees, to get in touch and make the most of the free service that’s available until March 2023.”

South Bristol businesses are being urged to join a similar scheme, the South Bristol Enterprise Support (SBES) programme. Set up in July last year, the scheme provides a wide range of advice and guidance to help businesses and entrepreneurs in the face of significant economic challenges.

The scheme offers a range of support to entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized enterprises including: training packages, bursaries and grants, access to workshops and business coaching.
