At BrisBES, our mission is to empower local businesses to thrive by providing them with the tools and support they need to succeed. One of the businesses we’re proud to have worked with is Pinkmans, an artisan bakery renowned for its handmade, wild yeast-based goods. From their bakery in Barton Manor to their three vibrant cafes in Whiteladies Road, Westbury-on-Trym, and Bristol Cathedral, Pinkmans embodies a commitment to traditional methods and exceptional quality. But their journey to success hasn’t been without significant challenges.
In 2023, Pinkmans faced a devastating setback when a fire destroyed their main store and production site on Park Street. Losing their site, equipment, and financial safety net due to an unsuccessful insurance claim, the team was left with no choice but to rebuild from scratch. Despite the odds, the dedicated team at Pinkmans, led by their determined leadership, began the process of recovery. With the help of their peers and community, they established the infrastructure needed to resume production and found a new home on Whiteladies Road.
When Pinkmans turned to BrisBES for support, we were eager to help them take the next step in their journey. Through our program, they were able to invest in two critical areas: hiring a social media and marketing executive to enhance their online presence and implementing an advanced operating system to track and monitor operational data, including stock usage, revenue, and HR compliance.
The results have been transformative. With the new operating system, Pinkmans has transitioned from instinctive decision-making to a data-driven approach, enabling them to optimize their operations and plan strategically for the future. To further enhance these capabilities, they are collaborating with an intern from UWE to develop a KPI dashboard. This tool will provide real-time insights, empowering Pinkmans to make efficiency-boosting decisions and respond dynamically to challenges and opportunities.
Pinkmans’ story is a testament to the resilience and innovation of local businesses. At BrisBES (backed by funding from Bristol City Council and the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority), we are honoured to have played a role in their recovery and growth. By providing the right resources and expertise, we aim to help businesses like Pinkmans not only survive but thrive in an ever-competitive market. Together, we’re building a stronger, more vibrant community for all.
