Edgie Eats is a standalone bakery brand set up by Bath University biomedical science student Hannah Egerton. Starting out in 2019 as a lockdown Instagram food blog, it soon grew into a business baking and delivering brownies and cakes. Following regular sell-outs at a university pop-up, Hannah legitimised the business, acquired a market stall, and eventually had to turn her parents’ garage into a bakery before moving into her first commercial kitchen in September 2022. She then landed wholesale customers and had a regular set up at Bath Rugby. The business now supplies nearly 40 locations across the South West and they successfully launched a café in Bristol in april 2024. Thanks to robust local demand and the backing of council and enterprise grants, Edgie Eats is now an established and growing bakery brand with wholesale, retail, and café enterprises. Behind the whirlwind success, however, were genuine difficulties.

Being a young woman in a historically male-dominated catering industry, Hannah had to work hard to be listened to. She recalls trying to sell her products in person to 37 cafés—only one agreed. That one café, Picnic in Bath, is still a regular customer today. Despite the rejection and steep learning curve of being an entrepreneur alone, Hannah has firmly stuck with it. She employs a loyal team of 12, and has acquired a larger commercial unit in Bristol to be able to expand her business further. Her business bravery did not go unnoticed, as Edgie Eats has been shortlisted for nine South West business awards over three years.
BrisBES came into Hannah’s life when the time was just right. As the business was on the verge of expansion, BrisBES didn’t just provide finance but also ongoing mentoring and faith in her overall vision. With Business Advisor Andy Weeks, Hannah was able to receive regular one-to-one time and guidance on how to submit an application for a BrisBES grant. Although time obligations curtailed her participation in workshops, she was aware that she now had a larger support network to tap into as and when she required it.
The BrisBES grant she secured at a critical phase allowed Hannah to equip her new wholesale kitchen with a commercial oven, refrigerators, shelving racks, and mixers. The investment allowed Edgie Eats to significantly increase its volume of production, paving the way for larger wholesale orders and deeper market penetration.
Now with a bigger commercial space opening in August 2025, Edgie Eats is poised for the next chapter. Hannah has big plans: expanding the wholesale end of things and opening two more cafes in the next 6 years. Fueled by her passion for her job and passion for customer experience, Hannah keeps challenging her comfort zone and building a brand that puts a smile in every bite.
BrisBES financed more than a business—they empowered a tenacious young entrepreneur. Their investment allowed Hannah to take more confident strides towards long-term growth, jobs, and community impact. Edgie Eats is more than a bakery—it’s an example of what can happen when passion finds support, and ambition finds opportunity.
Hannah Edgerton, Creator of Edgie Eats said, “BrisBES has completely transformed my business. Without the grant and the funded support, I wouldn’t be able to open my production kitchen this year. Our demand has skyrocketed, so the funding has enabled our business to grow and flourish to take on these new clients!”
